Evergreen buckthorn (Rhamnus alaternus) is a bush or small three with alternate, small, similar to those of Quercus ilex ssp. ballota leaves but brilliant because the lack of hairs. This is a dioic plant with masculine individuals and feminine ones. Feminine individuals produce round, first reddish, then black when ripe fruits. The 1st picture shows a male individual in blossom, with flowers containing 5 fertile stamens. The 2nd picture displays, one female individual plenty of fruits.
The evergreen buckthorn is more frequent in the sparse evergreen woods of dry areas. It is found in Aleppo pine woods as well.
